Laser Therapy for Neck Pain Relief

Neck pain makes everyday things—turning your head, working at a screen, sleeping—harder than they should be. ReliefNow’s Regenerative Medical Laser™ is a Class IV (high-power) photobiomodulation treatment that may help calm irritated tissues, reduce inflammation, and ease pain so you can move more comfortably. Results vary by person; your provider will confirm if laser therapy is appropriate for you.

Who may benefit from laser therapy

Many people with neck pain caused by irritated soft tissues or joints may benefit from laser therapy. Your provider will evaluate your specific case and determine if it’s appropriate for you.

Conditions we commonly see

    • Muscle strain/overuse (“tech neck,” posture-related)

    • Whiplash or minor sprain/strain

    • Cervical facet joint irritation

    • Arthritis/degenerative changes (non-surgical cases)

    • Disc irritation without severe neurologic deficits

If you have severe pain, new weakness, numbness in both arms, loss of bladder/bowel control, fever, or recent major trauma, seek urgent medical care.

How laser therapy may help neck pain

Our Regenerative Medical Laser™ uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity—a process called photobiomodulation. In many patients, this may help calm inflammation, improve micro-circulation, and ease painful muscle guarding so the neck can move more comfortably. Results vary; your provider will tailor settings to your condition.

Laser therapy is non-invasive and drug-free. It’s not a cure-all and individual outcomes vary based on diagnosis and overall health.

What does the research say?

Studies on photobiomodulation (laser therapy) for neck pain show small-to-moderate short-term pain reductions for some patients. A large meta-analysis of randomized trials reported reduced pain after treatment for acute neck pain, and benefits lasting up to 22 weeks in some chronic cases; authors advised cautious interpretation due to variation between trials. More recent work on high-intensity/Class IV protocols suggests added benefit when combined with exercise, though certainty is low to moderate and results vary. Laser therapy is best used as part of a comprehensive plan your provider tailors to you.

Neck pain & laser therapy: FAQs

FAQs

1How does laser therapy help relieve neck pain?
Laser light stimulates cellular activity (photobiomodulation). In some patients this may help calm inflammation, improve local blood flow, and reduce painful muscle guarding—so movement feels easier. Results vary by person and diagnosis.
2Is it safe?
Laser therapy is non-invasive and generally well tolerated. Your provider uses protective eyewear and screens for precautions (for example: avoid direct application over the eyes or thyroid, and disclose pregnancy, active cancer in the area, infection, or photosensitivity). Your provider will advise you.
3Is it safe?
Laser therapy may help reduce pain and irritation from nearby soft tissues. It is not a fix for severe nerve compression. If you have worsening weakness, widespread numbness, fever, or recent major trauma, seek urgent medical care.
4How many visits will I need?
Plans are individualized. Many patients complete a short series over several weeks (often 6–12 visits). Sessions are brief—typically 5–15 minutes. Your provider will tailor the plan to your condition and goals.
5What does it feel like?
Most people feel gentle warmth during treatment. There are no injections and typically no downtime; you can usually return to normal activities right away.
6Is it covered by insurance?
Coverage varies. Many patients use self-pay, HSA/FSA, or clinic payment plans. Ask your nearest ReliefNow® provider about costs and options.
